Keynote session with Jarrad Hope: A path towards mainstream adoption of Ethereum

At this year's Blockchain world conference, Jarrad Hope gave a perceptive look into the world of Ethereum, how it can be adopted by the masses and used as an alternative to the outdated systems that exist.

The main focus of the Ethereum is the design of the ELC20 standard - a token standard which was created by a handful of people. The Ethereum has marginalized the cost of creating tokens, thereby through digital assets. A large influx of value has emerged into the Ethereum space.

ELC20 which started off serving as a basic infrastructure has actually implemented millions of dollars in the Ethereum realm.

The Ethereum can save hours of manpower where lines at immigration will be cut short (for example) as things move at a faster pace, ultimately you won't even need your passport. Ethereum can save so much manpower that can be redirected somewhere else.

This standard of Ethereum created by such few people can have an impact on the way we socially operate and organize ourselves.

How can we take this foreign blockchain and make it useful for the average user?

We need to find a way to get people on board on mass in a way that feels familiar and to the stage where they are almost unaware that they have used such an advanced technology, for example, the 'Full Blockpoint Ethereum node' that you can run on your device. We imagine it to be an operating system which has specific features such as wallets to manage assets.

Ethereum is a Blockchain and is used on Web 3.0. The 'Blackcoin' is used to add the same decentralized securities but without having to download the entire blockchain state.

What will the world look like in 10/15 years when anyone in the world can create something that changes the dynamics of society?

With blockchain and web 3.0 we can basically take the lawlessness of this landscape and we can overlay it with a thin layer of order.

Will society as a whole become citizens of Blockchain? It is an interesting thought process which looks at virtual nation states or nationless states which is most likely going to be the landscape of many infrastructures of the future. If you look at apps that are currently developing Ethereum blockchain, it's quite inconceivable that an application has access to blockchain and can service its users in a way that's socially & economically more prosperous. With the implementation of apps, it will help with mass adoption of Ethereum Blockchain and is something that needs to be considered.

How can we take this foreign blockchain and make it usable for the average user?

It's crucial that we get to the stage where people are almost unaware that they have used such an advanced technology.  'Full Blackpoint Ethereum node' that you run on your device is an operating system but it has specific features such as wallets to manage assets and transactions.

In order to create a decentralised security system but without having to download the entire blockchain state there is the 'Blackcoin' form of technology.

There are two other protocols. The Ethereum web stalk which people aren't' really aware of is called 'Vispa' - it's a decentralized messaging service that offers fantastic privacy features which you don't see anywhere else.

'Sworn' is another form of a decentralised file storage. With these forms of Ethereum, they enable the user as much control as possible.

How 'Vispa' essentially works is its a peer to peer network. When you send the message out it actually bounces around the network. (Jarrad Hope)

The concept of content discovery in web 2.0 have search engines like Google, however, it is inherently centralised and is very difficult to do it in a decentralised way.

Forming the 'Chains of Trust' has become very interesting for moderation and for finding out what kind of content you are actually interested in and pushes us forward into web 3.0 and the future of the use of Ethereum by society as a whole.

Co-Founder of Status

Jarrad is the thought leader and Co-Founder of Status, an open source mobile client for the Ethereum Network that serves as a gateway to DApps, secure wallet, and more. Status raised more than $100M in less than twenty-four hours through its token sale of SNT.

Jarrad has been involved in the Blockchain technology space since 2010, and has been an active contributor to Ethereum since it’s inception. He possesses a strong vision to leverage the cutting edge technology of Blockchain, as well as employ crypto-economics in our society’s future, with a higher goal of pushing the movement of ‘libre software’ forward.

Jarrad established the Ethereum Amsterdam Meetup, which now has hundreds of members organizing and taking parts in its events. Jarrad has also been an active contributor to OpenNARS an academic general-purpose AI project. Prior to Status, he founded several successful startups, primarily around software distribution.

Status is a mobile OS, built for Ethereum. Status combines a messenger and a browser, to build a gateway for everyday smartphone users to begin using DApps, and a simple way for DApp developers to reach new users.
