BLACK, WHITE AND THE SHADES OF GREY – SLUSH SINGAPORE IS NOT YOUR USUAL TECH CONFERENCE

On a scale of black and white, how grey exactly is today’s world? This is the question Slush Singapore will be asking its speakers on stage this year. In its second edition, Slush Singapore is on the lookout for colors behind the traditional topics, revealing more than you would expect and making you think broader than you thought you could.

Slush Singapore is back for its second year bigger, better and bolder – and something quite different! On the 19th of September, 3,000 tech enthusiasts from 20 countries will gather to meet, mingle – and above all, challenge the status quo.

Themed Black & White Slush Singapore will twist each topic to unveil new, different angles. We believe nothing in life is just black or white – but can you see the spectrum of colors within?

Playing with five main themes we will guide you through a journey between Future Forward, Ethics – Into the Grey Area, Redefining Gaia – Building A Sustainable Planet, Our Connected World and Into An Entrepreneur’s Mind.

What can you learn from raising $80 million in 7 minutes? How do you train entrepreneurs in North Korea? Can AI make ethical decisions? What are the similarities between an F1 driver and an entrepreneur? Does impact equal revenue for socially conscious businesses? These questions and much more will be answered on our White, Black and Grey stages this year.

An inspiring line of speakers will be taking the stage, among them Taizo Son – Serial Entrepreneur, Founder & CEO for Mistletoe Inc., Taavi Rõivas – former Prime Minister of Estonia, Vice President of the Estonian Parliament, Taavet Hinrikus, Co-founder and Chairman of TransferWise, Pocket Sun – Founding Partner of SoGal Ventures, Julian Hosp – Co-founder of TenX, and JP Lee – Partner and Managing Director of SoftBank Ventures Korea.

For the Community, By the Community

Startups in Singapore attracted over US$1.4 billion in funding in 2016, rising from US$1.16 billion in 2015. With the amount of funding projected to increase in 2017, the startup scene in Singapore has never looked better. As a regional hub for Southeast Asia, Singapore is leading the way in attracting international investors, startups, and talent. But funding and talent alone are not enough to take Singapore forward. There needs to be the will, the grind, the mind-set. And that’s what the Slush movement is all about.

In 2016, Slush Singapore was made possible with the help of over 200 volunteers from all walks of life – students, entrepreneurs and other like-minded doers that wanted to co-create something that’s never been done before in Singapore – a fully grounds-up tech startup event. Their contributions in only 101 days of preparing for Slush Singapore 2016 made the event a roaring success. Why? Because it was built for the community, by the community.

Slush Singapore is driven out of passion for helping the next generation of entrepreneurs forward. Out of desire to show that a nonprofit, ground-ups movement can make a difference. We believe in empowering our volunteers, encouraging them to innovate and be creative, get out of their comfort zones and conquer challenges.

Says Recia Lee, Head of Media, PR & Marketing at Slush Singapore: “I’ve had such a great experience at Slush Singapore 2016 as a volunteer which made me want to give back to the community and inspire my juniors. This year, I’m heading the media, PR and marketing team and I look forward to another marvelous conference!”

This year Slush Singapore is expecting 300 volunteers and is already working with 60 community partners to make the event happen.

In addition to volunteering opportunities, Slush Singapore has been organizing Startup Masterclasses for local founders, Ideation Workshop for students and plenty of School Roadshows bringing entrepreneurial talks to universities and polytechnics.

With that, it’s time to kick off the most humid Slush season! Mark your calendars for September 19, with all the action happening at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre.

Slush Singapore is organized in association with SWITCH (Singapore Week of Innovation & technology).
