Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, unveils its new regional headquarters in Singapore in line with its long-term commitment to drive e-commerce forward in the region. The 244,000 square-foot headquarters will serve as a springboard for further innovation and expansion of Shopee’s presence in its seven markets.
The brand new purpose-built space can accommodate up to 3,000 employees and offers a host of features to facilitate a more creative and synergistic working environment. Shopee’s vibrant culture is also reflected in the overarching design concept which is centred around connectivity, collaboration, and community.
Chris Feng, Chief Executive Officer at Shopee, said, “Within just four years, Shopee has solidified our market leadership in the region. This year, we established our position as the number one shopping app in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, while sustaining a robust growth momentum. However, this is only the start. Our new headquarters reflect our long-term commitment to unlock the full potential of e-commerce in Southeast Asia and Taiwan. We will do this by making online shopping an engaging and social experience that connects people across the region.”
Shopee was built in 2015 to deliver a localised and mobile shopping experience that addresses the diverse needs of the people in Southeast Asia and Taiwan. This unique approach has powered its rapid success. In just four years, Shopee is now the number one shopping app in the region by downloads, average monthly active users, and total time spent in-app[1]. Most recently, Shopee rounded off its signature annual 9.9 Super Shopping Day, where it achieved 3 times the orders compared to the previous year.
According to Google-Temasek-Bain, e-commerce is the biggest sector in Southeast Asia’s digital economy. It is set to hit US$153 billion by 2025, around 4 times its value in 2019. Shopee has a roadmap to make this a reality, by connecting everyone in the region through an engaging and social shopping experience.
In the past year, Shopee has expanded its suite of in-app games to make online shopping uniquely fun and interactive. To date, Shopee has over 15 in-app games across the region, including its classic Shopee Shake game which has been played over 700 million times.
As buyers demand a more interactive shopping experience, Shopee has expanded its social features. For instance, the Group Play mode was built into Shopee Shake this year, to offer users greater rewards when they play together with friends. Shopee has also upgraded its Shopee Feed to make shopping on the app more social. The new Shopee Feed has been rolled out in Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia and Vietnam, and will be made available in coming markets in the near future. With Shopee Feed, users can follow friends, sellers, and brands and stay updated on what other people are listing, buying and selling.
As the peak of the year-end online shopping season approaches, Shopee gears up for 11.11 Big Sale, which promises to be its largest-ever shopping event to date. Shopee 11.11 Big Sale will kick off in all seven markets this month and run till its grand finale on 11 November. Users in all markets can enjoy free shipping[2] daily across the entire duration of 11.11 Big Sale while they shop from millions of sellers and brands on Shopee.
“We are delighted to kick off a brand new chapter in the Shopee story. We have a clear plan ahead for Shopee and e-commerce in the region, and we will continue to work on creating a unique, engaging and social Shopee experience that is inclusive for all.” closed Feng.
