Thailand’s Techsauce Summit proves to be the new rock star of tech conferences in Asia

Techsauce Summit was organized this year for the first time yet attracted more than 3,000 attendees including 200 startups, 200 investors, 200 media representatives, thought leaders, policy makers, SMBs and corporate innovators to Bangkok. This makes Techsauce Summit the biggest international tech conference ever organized in Thailand and at the same time also makes it the biggest FinTech conference in the country with the support of the title sponsor for this year, Digital Ventures.

The event created a buzz with more than 10 million impressions of media coverage and was attended by the top management of enterprises from various industries such as Banking, Telco, Retails, Food and Agriculture and well-known startup and SMB entrepreneurs as well as artists and celebrities. Some of the attendees included Thana Thienachariya (Chairman of the Executive Committee at Digital Ventures), Sitthichoke Nopchinabutr (CMO of dtac), Korn Chatikavanij (Former Minister of Finance of Royal Thai Government), Supachai Chearavanont (President and CEO of True Corporation PLC), Maneerut Anulomsombut (CEO of Garena Thailand), Suthichai Sae-yoon (Director of Nation Broadcasting Corporation PLC), among others.

“It unites every conglomerate and governments are involved. When you look at the variety of rooms, they're having multiple conversations. What makes Techsauce unique is that it is the full array of industries, not just the tech sector but every sector,” say Paul and Tom Srivorakul (founders of aCommerce, Ensogo acquired by Living Social). “It’s important for the country. Let’s keep this happening. We need it here.”

Not only in Thailand; the event also appears to be one of Asia’s top tech conferences to watch.

A healthy roster of world-class speakers

Techsauce Summit covered more than 160 speakers from over a dozen countries. It featured several top entrepreneurs such as Tikhon Berstam (Co-founder of Parse acquired by Facebook for $85m), Daniel Kan (Co-founder of Cruise Automation acquired by General Motors), Nick Nash (President of Garena Online, one of Southeast Asia’s top unicorn startups) as well as world’s thought leaders in FinTech like Chris Skinner (one of the most influential people in banking) and Vladislav Solodkiy (CEO of Life.SREDA VC), to name a few.

“It’s not just a conference. It’s a platform that unites passionate people. I think in one year we will see more and more participants coming to Techsauce Summit. I’m very impressed by quality of the event, the speakers and the attendees,” Mr Solodkiy commented during the event.

Techsauce Summit united the world’s top 3 accelerators on the same stage for the first time in this region

It was also the first time in this region that the world’s top 3 accelerators are sharing the same stage: Y Combinator, Techstars and 500 Startups.

“This event helped me to get access to all the startups and VCs that are in the region - everyone comes here to get in, and it's about 3,000 people. So in one or two days you can do the work that probably would have taken you six months without travel, but being at Techsauce Summit I’ve been burnt away with the event, the attendees, the top-notch people that are here. I think it’s been fantastic," said Yossi Hasson, Managing Director of Techstars Africa, as he talked about his experience at Techsauce Summit.

Thailand, once a quiet market for technology companies, is developing into a major and fast-growing startup hub in Southeast Asia. Techsauce Summit's success reflects that, as well as its Thailand startup report that details the growth of investor-led funding for startups in the country.

“There are so many hidden unicorns in Thailand and undervalued ventures that deserve funding in Thailand, but in Southeast Asia, investors have traditionally looked first at Indonesia and Singapore. Our latest research and event shows that Thailand is beginning to genuinely rival them,” shared Amarit Charoenphan, co-founder of Techsauce. “Thailand’s solid infrastructure, business stability and low operating costs make it a perfect storm for startups; we hope our report helps more of the tech community to become aware of this.”
