Huawei Founder: Hongmeng OS Useful for IoT-Enabled Automated Production

Ren Zhengfei, Huawei’s founder and CEO, said with the fixed low latency, the company’s Hongmeng OS is useful for IoT-enabled automated production.

“The purpose of our OS is to enable a world where everything is connected and intelligent,” said Ren during a recent interview with French Magazine Le Point. “Huawei's Hongmeng OS ensures a fixed latency. The end-to-end latency is 5 milliseconds or less, with the possibility of being reduced to sub-milliseconds.”

“Take autonomous driving cars as an example. The gears within a car rotate with a latency of a few milliseconds. If the latency is not fixed, the gears can miss each other, and will be unable to work together properly,” he said.

On August 7, Huawei, the leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, will hold an IoT industry summit in Bangkok, Thailand, where cutting-edge IoT technologies and applications will be exhibited and discussed.

IoT has been successfully applied in Thailand and has produced good social and economic values. As an important engine for Thailand 4.0, IoT has the potential to drive the digital transformation of Thailand toward smart industry, smart city, and smart life.

“We want to satisfy society and people, because our ultimate goal is to serve our customers. Who are our customers? 6.5 billion people, and possibly more in the future for more IoT connections. Therefore, we are committed to creating value for customers and ensuring we satisfy people's need,” said Ren during the interview.

IoT is the foundation for Artificial Intelligent, Big Data, and a significant part of 5G. Huawei, the leader in 5G, has launched the industry's first full range of end-to-end 5G commercial products and solutions that comply with 3GPP standards, and has setup the Open Lab in Thailand to support local developer for applications development.

Regarding the supply of 5G equipment under current challenges, the CEO confirmed that the company won’t be affected.

“Of course there won't be any problems with supply. Besides, our 5G equipment is the best in the world. No other companies will be able to catch up within two to three years. Supply won't be a problem. Our production lines are working flat out these days.”

Asked about the recent challenge the company is facing from the U.S., Ren told the French journalist that “the wheel of time always runs forward, no one can stop it.”

“We only sell customers bare equipment, like water pipes and taps. Device products are like taps and connectivity equipment is like water pipes. The stuff flowing through them, whether water or oil, is decided by information systems. The systems are controlled by carriers themselves, not us. So we have no access to data, and we promise we have never installed backdoors,” he said.

“The key to Huawei's success is our dedication to creating value for customers,” Ren added. “Despite its harsh attacks on Huawei, customers are still buying products from us. This is the result of our years of commitment to customers and creating value for them.”

As a market leader in China and many countries across Europe, Asia, and Africa, Huawei provides products and services are used by more than 3 billion of the world’s population.

“Collaboration for shared success,” Ren Zhengfei said when Le Point asked about his favorite proverb.
